Mailifide — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026

1. About This Policy

This policy applies to Mailifide, a Mac app and its extension for the Mail app, published by Appfide Private Limited ("Appfide," "we," "us," or "our"), a company incorporated under the laws of India with its registered office at XXI/152 Panadans, Cochin University Post, Ernakulam – 682022, Kerala, India.

It sits alongside our company-wide Privacy Policy. Where the two differ, this app-specific policy prevails for Mailifide. Sections of the company policy about user accounts, sign-in, profile data, analytics, advertising and web payments do not apply to Mailifide.

2. In Short

  • No account, no sign-in, no names or email addresses.
  • No analytics, no tracking, no ads and no third-party SDKs.
  • Your email is read and analysed on your Mac. Message contents are never uploaded, and Appfide never receives them.
  • What Mailifide remembers (your tags, the addresses your mail was delivered to, recent scan results and trusted domains) is stored only on your Mac, and you can delete it.
  • Optional domain checks send only the sender's domain name, and you can turn them off.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple. Appfide receives no payment details.

3. How Mailifide Reads Your Mail

Mailifide works through an extension that you turn on in the Mail app (Mail ▸ Settings ▸ Extensions). Mail passes new messages to the extension as they arrive.

  • Account tags. Mailifide reads message headers, such as the address a message was delivered to, on your Mac to decide which tag applies, then asks Mail to color or flag the message.
  • Scam Shield. If you subscribe and turn it on, Mailifide also analyses the message text and links on your Mac to look for signs of phishing. On a Mac with Apple Intelligence turned on, this includes Apple's on-device AI model (the Foundation Models framework), which runs on your Mac. Mailifide does not use any cloud AI service.
  • Check a Message. When you ask Mailifide to check an email you already have, it is analysed on your Mac in the same way.

Message contents are never uploaded to Appfide or anyone else. Mailifide does not change the contents of your messages; it only colors or flags them, shows a warning above a suspicious message, and, if you choose, moves likely scams to Junk.

4. What Is Stored on Your Mac

Mailifide keeps the following only in its own container on your Mac. None of it is sent to Appfide.

  • Your tags and the addresses or domains each one matches, and your settings.
  • The addresses your mail was delivered to, so Mailifide can suggest them when you create tags.
  • The last 200 scan results, so warnings can be shown in Mail and listed in the app.
  • The domains you marked as trusted, so Mailifide stops warning about them.

5. Network Connections

Mailifide has no Appfide account or server that your mail passes through. It makes only these connections:

  • Optional domain checks (Scam Shield). To help judge a sender, Mailifide can look up the sender's domain name (for example example.com) — and nothing else from the message. It sends the domain name to your Mac's DNS resolver (to check its mail and DNS records), to rdap.org (public domain-registration data, such as when the domain was registered, which may refer the request to the registry for that domain), and makes one HTTPS request to that domain's home page. These requests go directly from your Mac, not through Appfide. Like any internet request, they reveal your IP address to the services contacted, under their own policies. You can turn them off in Scam Shield with Check sender domains online and Also check the sender's website.
  • Scam rules updates. About once a day, Mailifide downloads a signed rules file (lists of scam patterns and known scam domains) from appfide.com. No personal data is sent: our server sees an ordinary HTTPS request, which, like any web request, includes your IP address. We do not use it to identify you.
  • Purchases. Scam Shield is bought and managed through the App Store. Apple handles the purchase under its own privacy policy. Appfide receives no payment details.

6. Import from Contacts

"Import My Addresses from Contacts" opens the system contact picker. Mailifide receives only the email addresses you pick, and stores them on your Mac with your tags. It does not access or read your address book, and does not ask for Contacts permission.

7. What We Do Not Do

Mailifide has no account, no analytics, no tracking, no ads and no third-party SDKs. We do not collect, sell or share your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

8. Who Else Is Involved

  • Apple: the App Store purchase, and the Mail app and on-device AI model that run on your Mac, under Apple's own privacy policy.
  • Your DNS resolver, rdap.org and domain registries, and the sender's website: receive the sender's domain name when domain checks are on (section 5).

9. Children

Mailifide is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

10. Data Retention

Data stored on your Mac stays there until you delete it. Only the 200 most recent scan results are kept; older ones are removed automatically. Appfide does not hold any data about you.

11. Deleting Your Data

  • In Mailifide's Privacy screen, use Forget Detected Addresses and Delete Scan History.
  • Remove trusted domains in Scam Shield, and delete tags with Delete Tag.
  • To remove everything at once, use Delete All Data in the same Privacy screen. Moving the app to the Trash alone may leave its data on your Mac.
  • Deleting data or the app does not cancel a Scam Shield subscription: cancel it in your App Store account settings.

12. Security

Mailifide and its Mail extension run in the macOS App Sandbox, and its data stays in its own container on your Mac. The rules file is signed, and Mailifide checks the signature before using it. Domain-registration lookups, website checks and rules downloads use HTTPS.

13. Your Rights

Because Mailifide's data stays on your Mac, you control it directly and can view or delete it in the app. Appfide holds no personal data from Mailifide to access, correct or erase. If you have a question or request, email [email protected]; we respond within 30 days (or sooner where the law requires it). Depending on where you live, you have rights under laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, US state laws such as the CCPA, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and Brazil's LGPD, and you may complain to your local data protection authority, or in India to the Data Protection Board of India.

14. Changes

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date. If Mailifide ever needed to send anything more than described here, this policy would say so here first.
