Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I download Nija?
Installers for every platform — .dmg for macOS, .exe or .zip for Windows, .deb or .AppImage for Linux, .apk for Android and an unsigned .ipa for iOS — are on GitHub Releases, with a SHA256SUMS.txt file to check them against. An Apple-signed edition for Mac, iPhone and iPad is coming to the App Store. Inside the app, About → Get it on your other devices lists the installers with a QR code for each.
My computer says the installer is from an unidentified developer.
The GitHub builds may be unsigned, so macOS Gatekeeper or Windows SmartScreen can warn before the first launch. The steps to open them are in Installing unsigned builds. Only install files from the official releases page, and compare them with SHA256SUMS.txt.
How do I set up a database for sync?
Open Choose a database in the app and pick Supabase, PocketBase, CouchDB / Cloudant, Firestore or MongoDB. The Getting started steps walk you through it, and Check database tells you what is missing and offers Set up automatically where the database allows it. Each database has a full guide in docs/backends. You can also skip sync and use Nija as a local-only clipboard manager.
How do I add my other devices?
On a device that already syncs, go to Settings → Devices → Add a device. On the new device, choose Join with a code, scan the QR code and enter the 8-digit PIN shown next to it. Pairing hands over the database details and the encryption key, sealed, so you do not type them twice.
Why doesn't my phone record what I copy in the background?
Android 10 and later and iOS do not let apps read the clipboard in the background. On a phone, copy, then open Nija or tap Capture. On iPhone, set Settings → Nija → Paste from Other Apps → Allow to stop the "Allow Paste?" prompt. On macOS, Windows and Linux, capture is automatic. Settings → Permissions has a live clipboard-access test.
A clip is not showing up on my other devices.
Check that Sync with the database is on in Settings on both devices, and that neither device is paused, send-only or receive-only in Settings → Devices. With end-to-end encryption, the key fingerprint in Settings → Privacy must match on every device; if it does not, pair the device again. Platform details are in docs/platforms.md and docs/devices.md.
How do I delete my clipboard history?
Delete one clip everywhere from the device that copied it, or use Settings → Data to delete the history on this device or in the database for the whole group. Removing a device in Settings → Devices can also delete every clip it wrote. Deleting the app deletes its local data.
Can Appfide recover my clips or my passphrase?
No. Nija has no server and no accounts, so we never hold your clips, credentials or keys. Data in your database is managed with that database's own tools, and encrypted clips can only be read with the key held on your devices.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Open an issue at github.com/appfide/nija/issues with your platform, the app version (shown in About) and the database you use. Contributions are welcome — see CONTRIBUTING.md.
How do I report a security vulnerability?
Please do not open a public issue. Report it privately through GitHub Security Advisories. You will get an acknowledgement within 72 hours. The full policy is in SECURITY.md.
